Everything Can Change in a Second...

The day started with a four hour training session in Healthcare. My head was inundated with information but it didn't end there, I had to go back to my School and get four more hours of training, added to the eight I had the day before.

It didn't go by fast but at the end of a productive long two days of Information Overload, I felt content, grateful it was over for now and even a bit more confident!

I got home and found a delicious meal being served by my loving husband. I had this enormous feeling of gratitude to live in a beautiful place, have a loving family, surround myself with a great group of people who work as a team to make a huge difference in the lives of so many families. Can life get any better I thought to myself?

At that moment my phone reminded me that I had a voice message I had received while going around from training to training. The call was from the Radiology nurse. I was actually looking forward to the call, last week the doctor had decided to do a biopsy on a tiny spot he'd been watching, he just wanted to be certain. I'm sure it's scar tissue he said, I agreed, there's no cases in my family, I take care of myself and am very healthy, so I picked up the voice message on a speaker for my husband to stop worrying and we heard the nurse saying "Mrs. Shaffer can you please return my call I'd like to discuss the results of your Biopsy."

At that second I knew that my life was about to change....

Soon my physical body will change and I'll have to endure some very unexpected pain, but that's just the car that I decided to drive during this Life Adventure. My Spirit however will hop on the Shooting Star I'm about to ride and soar with it wherever it takes me.

Because Everything Can Change in a Second...

If I'm Gonna Die, I Wanna Live...

This morning I woke up later than normal because I worked last night, then when I got home, although I had just slept 5 hrs. the night before "The Voice" was on and it's one of my favorite shows, I love talent shows, there's so much talent out there that never seizes to amaze me. Some voices that must come straight from Heaven that even make me cry and talent of all types. It's also incredible how many young children have the talent of adults at such a young age. So of course I stayed up to watch it.

I've been trying to be more conscious of living my life with a different perspective than the one I grew up with and adopted for 60 yrs. only to find out at this age that I had made it more challenging for myself than it was supposed to be.

My logic tells me one thing but my repetitive actions and thoughts for most of my life seem to want to pull me back, so my strategy not to revert to the way I used to perceive my life is to make short term plans of action and try to stay true to my plan for a long enough period of time until it becomes the "New Normal".

I understand that there's always something pending to do, there are times and responsibilities to abide by and from there I have to decide what to tend to next, is it those pending things that can wait for now or is it doing something to bring me Joy, more health, stamina, strength and tools to help others find their joy. That's what I focus on first and then I go complete the other tasks.

I did it the other way around my whole life and the truth is that it didn't work out the way I thought it would. There were many things that I wanted to accomplish and always left those aside. I thought I was supposed to help those I love the most to accomplish their goals and then it would be my turn, my mom modeled it that way to me.

This morning I didn't have all those hours I get when I wake up at 1:30 am but I didn't want to stop living that part that brings me so much joy in the morning such as taking a warm bathtub with Epson Salts and citrus/menthol oils, ginger candles, meditation tapes and lets not forget sitting down to write so that tonight I can come back and re-read what I wrote and feel again that joy that I feel when I'm putting my "Own Oxygen Mask First" and then doing the rest.

The only thing we know for certain in this Life is that we're all going to die, this reality we are living day to day will end one day just like that, nobody really knows when or how, I'm not afraid of dying, I don't know anything about it just what others say but I know it will happen, I just want to do my best not to die with the Music still in me so "If I'm Gonna Die, I Wanna LIVE!!!" while I can and do it with as much Joy and Passion as possible!

The mistakes we make along the way and the lessons they teach us...

It was exactly 10 yrs. ago give or take a couple of weeks that I found myself making the biggest and most difficult decision that I’ve had to make my whole life, that of destroying the family that it took me a lifetime of blood, sweat, tears, losses, so many emotions, so much work and effort and yet it all seemed effortless because the love and joy that came along with it. Something happens along the way and the joy starts turning into pain, and when the pain becomes greater you need to make a decision as difficult as it may be. You need to take advantage of the pain in order to grow and become a better version of yourself on the other side. We don’t have any control over what anybody else says or does so we have the responsibility to take control of our lives and our happiness in order to be that person that overflows joy and thus able to give it to those you love, otherwise you don’t have anything to give.

That decision I took wound up changing the lives of MANY people, not to mention those I’ve encountered in my path these past ten years. I don’t even want to think about the decisions I’ve taken that have turned into disasters, although I really don’t think it could have been any different. If I were allowed to pick all the ‘mistakes’ I’ve made along the way and fix them, it doesn’t give me any guarantees that the end result would be a better one, different for sure but not necessarily better.

I was just looking at a little video my daughter took in our cute little townhouse her and I were renting at the moment. I was having so many challenges at the time, my mom was dying and I couldn’t even take care of her because of all the challenges I was dealing with, and I was working full time on top of it. People started feeling the right to talk about me, to judge me but nobody came to ask if I needed any help except for my daughter, she could see what my life was really like and could spot the mistakes I was making that at the time I couldn’t see.

One day she came to me with the idea that I must have a dog. Well I've had dogs for MANY years, my daughter being an animal lover brought home all sorts of critters as well but the presence of a dog was always there, we had four at one point, and I suffered every time I lost one as if it was my child, not to mention the care they require so I immediately said ‘NO MORE DOGS FOR ME’I was free to do anything, go anywhere, why would I want to tie myself again with a dog, but she managed somehow to convince me and looked for the one she knew I would not be able to resist and found it. She was a 4 wk. old Maltepoo (maltese/poodle) mix that looked just like the most beautiful stuffed animal with an adorable personality on top of it.

First we named her Sydney but for some reason it just didn’t stick and every time I wanted to call her I would think ‘Which city in Australia was it?’ jaja so after a few times that happened we decided to change her name to Chloe and that was definitely a perfect fit. And that wasn’t it, she was smart, happy, cuddly, and she was born on the same day my daughter was born, March 20th, my two blondies were now living with me. My daughter loving dogs as much as she does would play with her, and she is a great and patient trainer, so before long Chloe was dancing on two feet while turning in circles, she would sit for a long time watching TV, sit, lie, crawl was a given  and our daily long walks through the park where I would find places to set her free to run and chase the ball or run after my daughter were the joy of the day.

And then one day that all would end, first my daughter left for college and Chloe and I stayed back alone, my life routine turned boring and the challenges kept on coming, then the desire to move on became so strong that it must have put a blinder on my intuition.

It was a Saturday I remember that much, I was sitting at a restaurant that looked like the soda fountain shops from ‘Happy Days' waiting for my son to come out of a class. I had been doing that every Saturday and Sunday for months. I’d drive him there and go to this place that was next to a Movie Studio and sit there for a couple of hrs. to read or write while I waited for him. One of those Saturdays I called my niece in Israel and she suggested why not move to Israel for a while and something lit up inside instantly, I remember saying to her “Yeah, why don’t I”

The process turned out to be quite a bit more difficult and lengthy than I thought it would be, I had to become an Israeli citizen in order to receive all the benefits and that took me 6 months to achieve. Then I had to make sure that my father was going to be cared for, I had a leased car, a townhouse full of furniture and stored all the memories of my past in the garage, that all had to be tended to. Some decisions I made here were not the best I could have made but at the time was all I was able to manage on my own.

And then came Chloe, I never thought that would be the one thing that would turn out to hurt me the most. I had already given away so many priced possessions and was almost ready to go and then found out that I had to jump through more hoops to take Chloe with me, another 2 month delay. I didn’t even know what living in Israel would mean for me, where would I live, work, etc. My daughter of course pushed for me to take her that it would be a great mistake on my part to leave her, and gave me very valid reasons but I was getting so exhausted and so restless and ready to leave that I took the energy I had left, decided to take the shortest route and left Chloe behind with a great young woman to have an even better life than I was giving her, and I went out to look for a better life for me.

I saw Chloe once more just before I left and she was already different, she had been totally shaved and my furball looked thin without the fur, she was happy to see me but just as happy to get back with her new mommy and the woman who said no more dogs before my daughter convinced me of getting Chloe now has Diego, the companion I picked up off the streets of Tel-Aviv, a partially blind mutt, without too many teeth and all gray around the face, and gave him a chance at a better life like so many along the way did for me. We bring each other as much joy and companionship as Chloe and I did.

Life is to be lived, not regretted, I look back at the last 10 yrs. and I’m not sure there is anything I would change because isn’t the end result what’s really important? What I remember the most about my life adventure are all those moments that once made me cry as my fondest memories and highest accomplishments.

I must definitely keep on coming back to the Geiser in Tecozautla, this place is magical for me, anything can happen here, this time I even brought Diego, from the Streets of Ramat Gan to the Geiser in Tecozautla, no doubt life is a miracle. Anything can happen, And now I’m outta here ‘Attracting Dreams!’

May you attract all of yours too.

Much love everyone xoxo
Anita and Diego ;)

FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real...

FEAR
by Ilana

It´s dark out, and you´re home alone. The house is quiet other than the sound of the show you are watching on TV. You see it and hear it at the same time. The front door is suddenly thrown against the door frame. Your breathing speeds up. Your heart races. Your muscles tighten.

A split second later, you know it´s the wind. No one is trying to get into your home, you are safe. For a split second you reacted as if your life were in danger, your body initiating the fight-or-flight response that is critical to any animal´s survival. But really, there was no danger at all. What happened to cause such an intense reaction?

FEAR - an emotion mentally and physically paralyzing. We´ve all experienced it. We wouldn´t be human otherwise. Today, I want to talk to you about FEAR.

Fear is a chain reaction in the brain that starts with a stressful stimulus and ends with the release of chemicals that cause a racing heart, fast breathing, and energized muscles, among other things - also known as the fight-or-flight response. Does this response sound familiar to you?

The brain is a profoundly complex organ. More than 100 billion nerve cells compromise an intricate network of communications that is the starting point of everything we sense, think and do. Some of these communications lead to conscious thought and action, while others produce autonomic responses. The fear response is almost entirely autonomic. We don´t consciously trigger it or even know what´s going on until it has run its course. The stimulus could be a spider, a knife at your throat, the sudden thud of your front door, or even speaking before a room full of people.

An what is the number one fear humans have? Public Speaking! Jerry Seinfeld illustrated it well - ¨According to most studies, people´s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, If you go to a funeral, you´re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.¨

Today, I speak here before you about FEAR to point something out. Some of you may already be aware, some of you may not. But, nevertheless, I cannot let this opportunity to speak my mind go by without making sure I said my peace.

Each one of us boldly faced the number one fear humans have. I do not think anyone should downplay the courage they have shown in this classroom nor forget about it. In the future, at times when fear seems to be seeping in, remember the power that resides within you and the strength you exhibited in this classroom. This course isn´t even a requirement and the fact that each one of us got up here - multiple times, well, I personally think that deserves recognition.

So, whether your biggest fear IS public speaking, or sharks, or the dark, or something absurd like the fear of red socks - whatever it may be, congratulations to all of you for the completion of this course. And thank you Professor Piccillo for your wisdom and guidance throughout it.

It's Not This, It's That

"Knowing what to do, has not made me wiser.
Knowing what to say, has not made me smarter.

Getting what I want, has not made me richer.
Giving what I give, has not made me poorer.

Suffering so much pain, has not made me sadder.
Eating what I love, has not made me fatter.

It's embracing my pain, and being relentless.
It's following my dreams, and not holding resentments.

It's paying with love, and opening my heart.
And staying strong when all fails, and never falling apart."
